I got the idea for this poem on an emotional day when I was contemplating in the outdoors.
One lonely tree
yearns to be free
longing to see
what life could be

He envies the bird
nearby as it sings
The tree wonders why
he was not given wings

Jealous of the fish
free flowing it swims
the tree makes a wish
to make feet from his limbs

One fine day
there came a girl
with cheeks of rose
and hair a curl

The tree was so happy
He had a new friend
Little did he know
His happiness would end

The beautiful girl
was taken away
promised that someone else
could make her happy that day

The tree stood alone
filled with hate and grief
As he shed a tear
There fell a leaf

A strong wind was coming
it would not stop
One by one
Leaves started to drop

His branches grew weak
started to decay
then another storm came along
that fateful summer day

The tree's heart so empty
could not withstand
the trials that kept coming
no one to hold his hand

In pain and in sorrow
His heart turned to stone
With his last breath he said with a sigh
Please god - bring me back home
