I fell in love with the game and the man at once
I don't do many love poems, but this was for my man. I'd like to polish it up and give it to him, so I'd like some input!

Waterfront Baseball

Although we were desperately broke
And I had no interest in baseball
We scraped up the money to go to a game
Seattle playing a double header against Texas
It was my first major league game

We splurged and bought exorbitant
Ballpark hot dogs and tiny cups of lukewarm beer
You patiently explained the game to me
And didn’t treat me like a girl

Third inning – a crush on Joey Cora
How he stole bases!
Randy Johnson looked so much
like home folks it felt
I had gotten a visit there
Ken Griffey, Jr hit his home runs
and I saw it and it was thrilling

No team will be that team
No game will be that game
With breezes off the bay
And the sound of the waterfront
A counterpoint to the crowd
We held hands
and necked a little in our cheap
Grandstand seats and with you
Baseball became my game
