[written for the pond poetry competition in which the prompt was a photograph of a woman, embeded in bandages and highlighted with hues of red... ]


A softer self behind rough surfaces, bandages hide the broken being,
pain depicted not through words, but practiced through times deprived
crimson love, maroon the vice, redder yet the price,
lips sealed to reveal no lexis,
thoughts pour out through
the doleful
lenses.
