Cathartic thoughts about who hurts who
What is this that I feel?
Is it you or is it really me?
I think you have the power to hurt me
In truth you don’t
I am the one that turns the blade
I am the one that throws the stone

What is this that I think I feel?
Is it an interpreter interpreting?
I give you the power to hurt me
You have no such control
I am the one that dredges the past
I am the one that will not let go

Where is this I am dwelling
Is it here with you in the now
I give the memory of the past
The power to cripple
I am the one that demands justice
I am the one that opens the closet

I am the skeleton in my own dark place
Who needs accusers when I have me?
I know everything there is to know
I am the one that hurts me so

It is not you that hurts me here
It is my own forgiveness that holds back
I marinate in my own guilty pleasure
And blame you for how I feel
I am the one that keeps me down

What is it that you feel?
Now we have me out of the way
What is it that you feel?
You think I have the power to hurt you?
In truth, I don’t
You alone turn the blade
You choose the biggest stone
