SHADOWS IN THE SUN

Rahul Ghosh

''I am the enemy you killed, my friend'' --- Wilfred Owen.

I am the enemy, forced to be away from my own abode
I am the enemy, attacked by police in March last year
I am a policeman, killed by the revenge-seeking mob
I am the enemy, homeless again, seven months after.

Humanity is my name, peace is my religion
I have no colour as such, no flag, nothing like a symbol.
Love is my only agenda, trust is my manifesto.

My heart is crying in pain, my heart is full of fear
Though the 'sunrise' happened, I see shadows very near
Some dark-black shadows of unrest and terror,
As I have now realised, my friend is none
The blue sky is attacked by shadows in the Sun.
