Lonliness brings out the worst in people. Sometimes. Whatever.
When I find out that
Awkward silence
Isn’t the savage beast we
Thought it was,
Because even that’s better
Than the tension that clogs
The air as the words pour out
Of their mouths.
And I twitch uncomfortably,
Scrutinizing every move
Like I’ve got something to hide.
Strangled by my own stupid
Paranoia.
Because deep down I know
Everyone is looking at me
But they keep talking anyway.

And I start eating turkey sandwiches
Every single day
Because that’s the only way
Anyone ever makes it.
turkey and lettuce;
Because only the thin ones get in.
And sometimes it feels like
All that work was for nothing.
Like every ab that begins to
Disappear is a summer week
Wasted.
And you’re never getting it back.

Like how all those other girls
Eat ice cream
And manage to skate amazingly.
And I can barely keep my legs in motion
And my arms off my sides.
They say champions do what others
Will not
And sometimes it’s just not fair
Oh you know sometimes
Life isn’t fair.

As I look at the ground
Or off into space
Pretending to be listening
But not really,
Because I’m so overwhelmed by
Lonliness
In just that one moment,
And I hope you won’t notice
Or maybe I hope you do.

It’s the day when I feel alienated
Among all my friends.
When I feel stupidly clueless
Around my own game.
When familiar becomes new,
And the recognizable is different
In a way that leaves you
Dazed and lost.
So you think there may be a chance
That you’ll never find your place again.
It’s a quiet isolation that
Can only be compared with
Turkey and lettuce.
Because isolation is where
Our faults seem greater.
Only in isolation do our faults
Overcome us.
