Dreaming versus being awake
Before you read, note that I make a reference to an addictive substance featured in The Lion, the Witch, and the Wardrobe used by the Snow Queen to manipulate Edmund Pensieve. In real life, it's a (pink?) candy.

"Indulgent Pain"

I ask this to my wall:
"How are you?"
In its blankness when I'm asleep,
I hear back:
"Fine. What a view!"

Desire spirals higher
and arcs across the sky of my mind.
The darkness of my covers forms your romantic setting.
I see high towers and city lights.
Love bids me adieu.

In the world around me,
hearts are glorified everywhere I turn.
They bring my disaster along in their wake.
Eyes flutter beneath lids in REM sleep.
My lids snap open,
and I know you're fake.

Reminiscing in indulgent pain is my song on Sunday.
I find succor in my version of turkish delight.
You take me on a rancid rampage,
and my words become skewed.
Can I still be innocent inside?
