A brief poem about the past that never leaves you. REVISED 3/31/08 for a 300-level course.
I remember when we were friends
A million years ago,
Back when we were inseparable -
Back when friendship was free.
But it's been ages:
Phone calls dwindle,
And visits cease,
While dusty photographs cover my wall.
Like shards of promises broken,
Silent whispers - ghosts from the past -

Silenced is our silence,
There is no bother or blame -
If we don't acknowledge it
It must not be real.
And still:
I wonder if you remember
Those moments frozen in time,
Pictures of a different life,
A million years ago.
