this is a poem about the misconceptions we learn about ourselves.
Living and learning in the midst of mere mortals,
we were left to grow with knowledge denied.
We learned to believe that we are of our own making,
that our worth is questionable and our beauty lacking.

We never knew that we have made ourselves
without the benefit of certain fundamental truths:
unconditional love, faith without foundation,
belief that our abilities are boundless.

Our hearts – submerged, crushed, mutilated and malformed;
Our hearts – hidden in a pocket that protects the truth,
Until the time we are ready to see:
our hope for truth, our dreams for plans, our destiny revealed.

What no one knew – not even us – is that our core is golden.
We are children of the stars;
our worth is brilliant and our beauty undeniable.
With only the slightest effort on our part,
the grunge and grime that encrusts our heart will fall away.
What is revealed will blind us and stun the world.

We are of our own making.
