A young woman becomes a military widow
A knock came at her door
Two men stood in blue class A's
She knew the news to be delivered
And she wouldn't forget this day

One man gave her Bill's baseball cap
They found on his head
The other, the family photo
Her husband kept by his bed

The kids and all their silly things
He laughed about all the time
Bill loved you so very much
You were the last thing on his mind

Ma'am, we're honored to have served
And he was very proud
We're sorry to inform you
Bill's plane has been shot down
