A poem about a girl on a bus knitting, and the people watching her.
she keeps to herself
sitting quietly
on the bus
perfectly minding
her own business
but every eye
is on her
and she tries
to ignore them
even though
she knows it
she feels their gazes
their stares
she doesn't look up
just continues her work
hands moving
with deft precision
pulling and tugging
twisting and looping
they all look at her
like they'd never
seen knitting before
“that's really good”
“looks hard”
they finally murmur
“it's a basic stitch”
she smiles
looking up
at the faces
that the voices
belong to
turns to them
“here, i'll show you”
and she takes them through
their very first stitch
and she through her
first knitting lesson
on the bus
