my first writing item thing huzzah!
He sees money
within dull gray suits
flashing smiles
clever briefcases

He sees love
a content family
with a cheerful wife
and playful son

He sees his home
a clean city
with happy people
a place to live

But he doesn't see poverty

within the invisible's ragged clothing,
within the desperate beggars
within the hopeless unnoticeables

But he doesn't see heartbreak

a broken family
consisting of a lonely wife
and tired son

But he doesn't see the homeless

within the grimy city
secret miserables gather for warmth
in a cold, cold place

what makes this man blind,
what makes him not see truth?

The blame lies upon himself

because some see with closed eyes,
and they haven't the courage to open them
