A story about a little girl and a magical painting that comes alive every night.
Molly and the Painted Bunny

Tonight was the night! Molly just knew it. She was going to catch that bunny once and for all. Every night for the last two weeks after mommy put Molly into bed and everyone went to sleep. A bunny snuck out of the painting that was on Molly’s bedroom wall next to her dresser and roamed around her house like he owned the place.

She told mommy about the bunny and mommy said, “stop telling tall tales Molly” She told daddy about the bunny and daddy said“ Now Molly what did we tell you about making things up” She told sissy about the bunny and sissy said “get lost Molly” The only way to make them believe was to catch him and that’s just what she was going to do. Tonight!

She had tried to trap him with a carrot, but he didn’t seem to have any interest in that. Then she tried with one of her toy bunnies but that didn’t work either. Tonight she would follow him downstairs and catch him in a pillowcase while he was doing whatever it is he does. Then she would wake everyone up and they would all be sorry for not believing her. Mommy and daddy put molly to bed and kissed her good night. Molly waited and waited. Finally the house was silent. Aha, there he goes. Now I must be quiet or he’s sure to hear me. Molly followed the Bunny out of her bedroom door and down the stairs. She watched him go into the den. She snuck up to the door and peeked inside. He was just sitting there looking at a painting.

Fast as could be she scooped him up in the pillowcase. Hurray, hurray, she did it! She caught him, all by herself. Molly was about to run upstairs to mommy and daddy’s room when she heard soft crying coming from the pillowcase. “Oh no, I know what you’re trying to do. You’re trying to trick Me.,” said Molly. “The second I open this bag you’ll jump out and run right back to your painting.” The soft crying went on. Molly didn’t know what to do. She didn’t want to be fooled but
what if she had hurt the bunny? She hadn’t meant to hurt him, she only wanted everyone to believe her. Maybe she had better take a little peek in the bag. Molly peeked in the bag and oh the poor bunny was sitting at the bottom with his hands over his eyes crying so sadly. Molly felt very bad for the bunny.

“Mr. Bunny” she said, “I’m so sorry if I hurt you, I didn’t mean to at all. Please don’t cry. I wish I knew how I could help you”. “You can let me out of this pillowcase for starters”. replied the bunny, Molly gasped and dropped the pillowcase. “You, you, can talk!” She said in amazement“Well I don’t know why you’re so surprised. You did see me come out of a painting after all”. Said the bunny.“Yes I suppose your right,” said Molly, But how incredible it all is. “Well” said the bunny “ let me introduce myself. My name is Chester and I know your name quite well as I have been living in your bedroom for some time”.

“Nice to meet you Chester”. Said Molly, “How do you come out of your painting Chester?” “Well, I just take a big running jump, but I never had to do it before you
took my family away”. Said Chester “ I didn’t do any such thing!” said molly “Of course not you personally” said Chester, “It was your mother, let me show you.”“Look in the painting I was staring at, Do you see the four bunnies next to the farm?” Asked Chester “Yes, I see them, is that your family?”Asked Molly, “Yes, the two paintings have always hung next to each other and my family was always together but when your family moved in here your mother moved my painting into your bedroom and we have been apart ever since.” “Chester, I am so sorry for you and your family. I had no idea,” said Molly.

“I will have my mother return your painting to the den at once.” said Molly “But I have come to enjoy watching you play Molly.”Said Chester. “Do you think your mother would bring this painting up to your bedroom instead?” “I know my family would be much happier there then in this stuffy old den.” “Yes, I’m sure she would.” replied Molly.Molly’s mother did bring the two painting together in Molly’s room and Molly spent many wonderful times with Chester and his family.
