First Love: The Strongest
By Naomi Rose Eldonez

I loved you.
You loved me.
We were made for each other.
We went together like
sand and sea.
You with your tattoos.
Me with my smile.
But you had those eyes,
If you looked at them to long
you could get hypnotized,
which I often did.
Your laugh, so original.
Your dark hair always tousled.
Your hands, rough form working with wood.

I had places to go, things to do
but I stayed.
You were there and you made me feel
good on the inside.
I needed to tell you that I loved you
so we could be together.

You told me, that day, about HER.
You had been with her for a while.
You couldn't leave her.

I left you a letter explaining
that I had given up
job opportunities to stay back here with you.
You never wrote back.

That day all the emotions I had
bottled up, leaked out in the form of tears.
my heart was shattered, the pieces impossible
to put back together.

I left that day, never to return.
But somewhere in the back of my mind
I wish I hadn't.

I never have loved anyone since
for my heart will always belong to you.
Even if you don't realize it yet.
