grief after many years
They say time heals all wounds but does it really.
The wounds that don't heal are not always visible or noticeable.
They grow and fester with time.
The wounds to our souls and spirit may never heal,
And we become like the walking wounded.

They say time makes the pain go away but does it really.
The loss grows with time till the small void left,
has grown into a great chasm.
The questions left unanswered. The voice made silent.
Do the memories fade or do we force ourselves to forget what we lost?

Do we really want to remember your laughter?
Do we really want to remember your spirit?
Do we really want to remember your love?

If we do then will the wound be reopened and flow free.
Do we begin to bridge the chasm left behind.
If we unleash our memories will we regret what we lost the day you died?
Time doesn't heal all the wounds but with remembrance,
comes a small amount of hope and peace.
Because when we do remember,
we see that you aren't really gone but live on in us.
To every person you ever meet you left a small piece of yourself,
and in this way you are made immortal.

The pain doesn't go away,
but it becomes a constant reminder of your love and life.
The sharp pain becomes a dull ache,
and this ache makes us appreciate those who are still here.

So in remembrance of you,
I won't forget what your life meant to me.
I will shed tears of sorrow,
I will laugh at fond memories,
I will never forget you because
I still love you and I always will.
