A little girl awaits arrival of abandoned father.
Seventeen times
The exact amount of times I peeked out of the window
Waiting for none other than you
When I talked to you on the phone
I thought it would be true this time
I mean you said it
And I believed it

From this empty barren place called a home
I can stay no longer
With my mama passing out ever couple of hours
I can't stay like this
Not only is she losing it
But it's beginning to take a toll on me
I'm only ten
Yet I'm the mother of my mother

I believed for the longest time that you would come and get me
My suitcase has been packed since the first time I heard you were on your way
But you wouldn't do that to me
Just say it only to back out
I mean you’re my dad
You're supposed to love me
And care for me

Well then how come you aren't here
But don't worry
I'm not giving up hope on you
Because I need you to save me
From this pit
With the cockroaches crawling around
Dirt and grime plastered against the walls
I don't even know if it could possibly be a home

But I'm still here
Waiting for you
To be exact I'm sitting on the only sanitary thing
My suitcase
Which I made sure
Has no living insects lying inside

I did that all for you…
But what do I call you
When you come and get me
I'll call you Pops
Or Papa or maybe Daddy
And I'll be your baby
Your little Cindy

We'll go everywhere together
Not like Mama does
Not how she takes me to the park and tells me to stay until she comes back
Not how she only comes back when she feels like it
Not how she comes to pick me up at midnight
I know that you won't do that to me

Because on the phone you told me
You told me that you loved me
And I know that you wouldn't lie to me
After all this
Right, Papa

I tried telling Mama that I was leaving
But just like you said Papa
She wouldn't have it
It was all too scary and that’s why she doesn't know I'm here waiting for you
I knew better than to tell her
But I needed to rub it in her face
To tell her that I wouldn't care anymore
But I sparked something in her

It was like a lion came out in her
Her eyes were red
She turned into a blazing fire
I still have the marks of her burns
From last night too if you don't believe me
But you told me you did
And I believe you

I know you wouldn't lie to me
After all this
I just know that there has to be a good person in my life
I know that whatever we call God,
I know He wouldn't do that to me
I know that you wouldn't do that to me
Right Daddy

I mean I love you
Just like you told me on the phone
Just like you said
I know that you love me
More that anything else
And that’s exactly why
I'm still sitting here
Waiting for you to come
And rescue me
