Children see things differently - for better or worse.
To look at the world
Through the eyes of a child;
An unspoiled perspective,
An innocent view.
Where dreams dance unhindered,
Imagination runs wild.
And everything’s magical.
Nothing’s impossible.
And life is so shiny and new.

There’s black and there’s white,
But not one shade of gray.
Each color so vivid,
So pure and so bright.
All the clouds look like bunnies
And the wind makes them play.
And everything’s magical.
Nothing’s impossible.
Until the dark onslaught of night.

As darkness descends
On a small, cringing world,
The shadows all gather
And danger draws near.
Hungry eyes, predatory
With sneering lips curled.
And everything’s frightening.
Thunder and lightning.
A strobe light ordeal of choked fear.

Unseen demons prowl
Behind door, under bed,
With only a blanket
To keep them at bay.
All the edges tucked tight
And up over the head.
And everything’s frightening.
Thunder and lightning.
Til blessed dawn drives them away.

The eyes of a child
See a world far removed
From maturity’s filters
And blinders and walls.
But would we have the courage
With vision renewed
To live in the magical?
To explore the possible?
To face our enlightening
Demons most frightening?

For the eyes of a child see it all.
