Finding a reason to go on
I finally came up for air
Tired of smothering
Struggling to breathe
Gasping in toxic fumes
I rose up
After lying for so long
Like a leftover log
Only used by hunters for short periods of rest
While seeking their prey
I took a step forward
Leaving my resting place
Baby steps
Until my body is no longer where it has once been
I opened new doors
Instead of slamming them
Or barricading myself against them
To prevent unwanted entry
I turned on the light
To escape the darkness
Where misery loves company
My old home where skeletons roam
I opened my eyes
Blinded by the world
That I completely ignored
Out of sight, out of mind
My mouth formed words
My voice nervous and trembling
"What took you so long to find me?"
