A poem to "define" the first song ever written.
Who wrote the first song
composing, forming, juxtaposing
sounds, grunts, grimaces, stances
in a valiant attempt to be seen, heard, understood,
and known?

Who was this first chronology of ideas,
ancestral stirrings,
tribal teachings,
forum rousing essays elucidated to?

What were these first chants,
grunts, and gyrations enacted for?

Why did some unknown sitting in the tribal cave,
beside the commune fire
stir the firebrands of his mind
into a frenzy of sparks
to see into his future,
my past?

Did he know that these first faint beginnings
would soon lead man to conquer his enemies,
make them his friends,
walk on the moon,
under the sea,
and to be invincible?

Could he have known this first subtle stirring
yet unknown to humankind would change
strong passions in askance,
form desire into love,
revenge to forgiveness,
fear to acceptance,
unknown to known?

Or is life made up of collections of
coincidental occurrences,
one after another,
just happenstance?

How different this persons future,
my past,
and the worlds indefinite time to be
if those efforts were
synergistically divined.
