In time short lived not long ago
As kids, all through the park we'd go
And skipped along the market gate
To where the eldest oaks did grow

Beneath a sky of spectre grey
On circuits south, the birds till May
Flew sidelong with the wind abreast
And chased the winter's dying day

My pocket held a jingled tune
Of nickels, dimes, and pennies too
A banded notion with each step
Ensured that I would be there soon

Aroma from my childhood fair
Recalls the baker's shoppe is near
Mother, for this chore I've risen
And brought you home a baker's dozen.
