A girl plays in the woods with the animals when poacher come
Together in the woods
That was shrouded in fear
There stood a girl
With her best friend, a deer

They walked and glided
Through ancient glens
Laughing and joking
And uncovering dens

They twisted and jumped
As high as can be
Whooping and calling
Feeling so free

Joining in the chorus
Of the birds and the bees
So the sounds and the birds
Flew higher than the trees

But over the sounds
Came a distant cry
The poachers had arrived
Which of the animals will die?

They panicked and feared
Running this way and that
The deer galloped of
Leaving the girl to hold onto her hat

She shouted and called
For the deer to return
Wanting to hug and sooth her
And walk with her to the fern

She went into the dark
Not wanting to stand still
Until a bang and a cry
Came from over the hill

She stumbled forward
To the sound she knew
Of her best friend the deer
Oh now she wanted to die too

Walking over the hill
She emerged from the trees
Startling a cry a bullet was shot
Then the poachers went home for their teas

Together in the woods
That was shrouded in fear
There lay a dead girl
With her best friend, a deer
