Sometimes people aren't quite what they seem.
The Mask

A smile that doesn't reach her eyes.
Every gesture tells a lie.
A gentle touch, which leaves a welt.
Kind words her pitch-black soul can't melt.

Because her heart is hard as stone.
Every thought a broken bone.
Each step she takes is a pretence,
And underneath her muscles tense.

Behind her mask, she screams in pain.
A mind that's broken. Now insane.
As soon the cracks begin to show,
Her truth revealed the world will know.
