Thoughts of life after the death of a cat.
There's a cat in the road
with guts exposed,
blood drying on hot pavement,
paws desperately clawing empty air
trying to destroy an enemy already gone.

Just moments before this broken mass of tissue
was a kitten exploring her beautiful exotic world.
A world expanding before this small bundle of energy's curious gaze.
Innocent, in search of-
(What is it cats search for?)
Why choose now to explore?
Why cross this road at this time?
(Look ahead little kitty. Look ahead!)

Perhaps a butterfly, beautiful in its own right, fluttered by.
Give chase as do the giant cats.
The great hunter!
Stalk your prey, but be gentle naughty kitty
for it also chooses this course for life.
Too young to care, too intent to see
the car: Your only true enemy.
So fast, so true. Never a hesitation.

Now as I drive away
the rain begins...
And I rain too.
