What an old dog learns about having a new pet toddler...
As I was napping on the floor
A tired dog next to the door
My owners gave me a surprise
A toddler pet to supervise.

Who knew? He was cute. That's for sure,
All fuzzy with his toddler's fur.
I licked his face and he pet mine
To watch a kid would be just fine.

I swear! He was there, by my nose
Then up he toddled past my toes
Before I knew it he had gone
And was playing upon the lawn.

Quick on my paws, I ran outside
Boy, this boy just knew how to hide!
I didn't find him 'til too late
He, by then, had found the gate.

I whined and followed to the pool
And watched him splash. I was a fool
For he flopped into former sand
I tell you, wet sand...should be banned.

Before I knew it he had run
Back on inside to have some fun.
He was havoc on muddy feet
By lunch, I felt I'd chased a fleet.

I snuffed and fell onto the floor
As a tired dog near the door.
My mom said, to the muddy hall,
"Didn't you watch your pet at all?"

I groaned from sad, muddy furred heaps
A pitiful form from which sand seeps.
I learned my lesson, yes, I did!
A pet should never own a kid...
