Gremlins, Children, Recess...
As kids we ran outside and played games at recess, and thus partly determined our future courses without even knowing it. The student aids watch in the distance, somewhat uneasily, for they know exactly what we are doing and what it means. We are training to replace them, and the little pretend worlds they are watching us create will soon be manifested on a much larger scale.
And it is necessary for us that they watch from a distance. In order for us to train properly we have to be the ones in charge. During that brief time, we are the stewards. We learn how to interact socially, and find out what roles we are comfortable taking. Sure the adults made us and love us and want to make sure we make good choices, but in the end we decide what we will become, independent of any guardian or authority.
