A poem about the worst addiction: the addiction to cell phones.
My hand is numb
And fingers hurt me
But I've gotta go

"I'm on the road now
"No- don't hang up
"I'm a very safe driver"

Carpal tunnel hurts me so
Even though once
I texted while I was driving

"Did he really- Hey!
"This bitch cut me off
"Watch where you're driving!"

Sure there's some danger
But that's how I live-
Right on the edge

"Hey it started raining
"The roads are slipp'ry
"How is Ronald doing?"

The some headlights
Cloud my view
And the driver's body is motionless

"Oh my God! look what you
"Did to my car!
"I'll have to call you back"

I search through the wreck
To their overturned car
I can't see their face

"Yo asshole, look what you did
"You better have some
"Damn good insurance"

It's non habit-forming
But why can't I stop?
His head was yards from his body.

"Dear God no- look what happened
"Somebody call the cops!
"He went and got himself killed!"

The sirens scream
Their reproaches at me
But I go and point my finger.

"It was all him
"Cell phone? I don't own one
"I was totally focused."

The sirens scream
Their reproaches at me
And so does my digital ringtone.

The End
