... a poem of gratitude to my mother.
TO MY MOTHER
[12/25/1934 - 2/15/2022]

Hi, Mom.  Did I say I love you today?
I wish you weren't 500 miles away.

I remember how we talked
when you were in the bath.
You never cringed or balked --
happy to help, even with math.

When we would argue or disagree
if I called home, you'd set my spirit free.

You found me a car I could afford to buy
and just the right dress for an Apple Butter Queen.
When it came to work, you knew I would try
and offered my skills to keep the neighbor's house clean.

When I saved enough money to buy a winter coat;
you helped me find one for just the right quote.

Remember, mom, I love you today;
and if you should need me, I'm a phone call away.

My sweet mother passed away quietly at about 3:30 p.m., Tuesday, February 15, 2022.
