Written for "Lexi's Poetry Challenge". What happens when the war is on the inside?
|The colors seem to run together
At this empty boardwalk by the sea.
The ocean seems to go on forever;
Stretching as far as one's eye can see.
A lone boat, far from the shore
Sounds its whistle for all to hear.
The beginning of an internal war
Is drawing so close - too near.
Black hairs flutter around her face.
Pale in the light of a crescent moon.
Silver streaks hold her; a sweet embrace,
As she stands in this raging typhoon.
Her green eyes glow on this cold night.
The battle has already begun.
Knowing she cannot win this fight
She declares that the battle is won.
She grasps her knife in delicate hands
And says goodbye to these foreign lands.
