Poem of remembering childhood abuse and sadness, hut and pain
She's sitting on the park bench fighting not to cry
Watching children play and clouds floating by
The sunshine on her face and breeze in her hair
She feels so disconnected, like she's not even there

Her thoughts begin to wander to her childhood days
Everything from those days she sees in a haze
She wants to forget all the pain and fears
And now struggles hard to hold back her tears

Thinking of youth and times that she'd play
At this same park, they seem so very far away
Fighting to recall happy times that she'd known
It's hard to imagine; it seems a lifetime ago

She remembers the hurt and pain so vivid
And the memory of the cause makes her very livid
How could such a beast even exist in this life
How could one person cause such misery and strife

He took from her the best of her formative years
Now she's sitting here trying to hold back her tears
What cruelty and unthinkable things he'd done
And she couldn't escape, there was nowhere to run

Trapped by her abuser in a place of guilt and shame
She clearly sees his face now and chokes on his name
Every thought of him makes her heart ache so
But it's impossible for her to let the images go

They haunt her each day and every night too
Where is the answer for healing, what is she to do
Watching clouds float by, feeling the breeze in her hair
She feels so alone, no one notices she's even there

They all walk by without even a glance
No one to question her gloomy circumstance
Can anyone see the pain and hurt in her eyes
Does any even care that she's begun to cry

No one takes notice as the tears stream down
Most look the other way, so not to see her frown
They can't be bothered to stop and help her out
They are far too busy rushing all about

Time is much too valuable to pretend they care
What would you do if you saw her sitting there
Would you simply walk past not giving a second peek
Would you think to yourself, "She certainly seems weak"

Or would you have a tender heart and show that you care
Reach out a help hand instead of leaving her sitting there
Alone with her hurt and pain and tears of shame and sorrow
Take time to help her please, for she may not make it 'til tomorrow

You see she's contemplated taking her own life
Knows no other way to escape the misery and strife
If someone would reach out and show that they care
It may give her hope to fight through the nightmare

It may make a difference just to hear a friendly comment
You don't know the change you can make in just a brief moment
A friendly hand and an open ear may save a life today
But you won't know if you choose to walk away
