When the love is gone, what is there left?
Alone, the emptiness gnaws from inside,
Eating away, leaving nothing to hide.
That place when filled seemed so small,
As though it took no room at all,
But as faded petals fell from flowers in the vase,
The void left there took on more space.
While the world waits beyond the door,
Unaware of what once was and is no more,
Reminders make it difficult to carry on,
Left desirous of something once cherished, now gone.
But what once was now can never be,
Though the ache has grown as deep as the sea,
What could have been will now never be known,
Hopes and dreams left behind, left alone.
