My thoughts on my most recent victory over depression.
Depression

Depression hovers 'round me.
It surrounds me,
smothering the joy

It scrambles my thoughts
and lays the blame on me
for this malady.

It is a greedy beast
that leaves my heart a vacuum,
hording all my hope.

No mortal hears my screams;
no earthly eyes can see my tears.
I fade into its darkness.

A morsel of sanity breaks through,
and I grasp at it. It is life or death;
I must take hold of it.

Slowly, I creep toward the light,
pulling myself from the cavernous pit,
vowing to do whatever it takes to live again.

The pit stands today, threatening
my well-being. With purpose and tenacity,
I measure my steps carefully.

For now, this moment, I am okay.
