My entry for Rose's Poetry Challenge... about an event I hope never happens.
I wade through the others here
through ocean waters and balmy air
The night's not static, it lives and breathes
it styles its hair, and clings to me

Thousands here, with glasses cheer
the laughter, fights, smiles and tears
We all know the reason though
that tension hides inside our coats

All rise, the time is near
Christmas Eve, a brand new year?
No, no, not one of these
this is the time of our unease

The lights are doused, voices hushed
not a sound, not a fuss
We wait for bombs to bring their might
and set the night to fire bright
