Free verse. Self-explanatory.
Today is another last day.

I head back to Camp Shelby to catch a flight overseas.
Away from my wife and children for a year - barring leave.

I've deployed before, but had no children then.
My oldest stems from celebrating that return home.

A bittersweet day, holding back tears.
Trying not to think about how much I will miss them.

At some point, I should get over leaving.
Leaving friends, family, the known for the unknown.

Today is another last day.

Digital memories uploading to my blog,
To share my happy grief with the world.

Squeezing a year's activities into four days.
It has been a busy weekend.

Battleships, ice cream, BB guns, Camelbacks.
Watermelon, grandparents, train store, trucks.

Tickling, laughing, swimming, singing.
Walking, playing, talking, hugging.

Today is another last day.

Over the next many years, there will be more.
More last days.

Camps, graduations, vacations, jobs, weddings.
All of the happysad last days.

That is the for the future, though.
Today is another last day.
