What happened when you walked away?
When you ran after dad on that walk.
What happened on that fateful day?
When you came back bloody and broken.

What happened when we drove away?
When we rushed you to the vet.
What happened on that fateful day?
When I held you for the last time.

What happened when you went away?
When we couldn't save your life.
What happened on that fateful day?
When loving you wasn't enough.

When your body stopped moving.
When your heart stopped beating.
When all you could do was sleep.
Sleep forever.
