cut down your opponent's zen

running full speed through the trees
i ignore the scenery
jungles rain and tapestries
of leaves
alone, the earth speaks to me

memory of slights and jabs
suckerpunches hooks and stabs
he criticized me
the last man besides me
claimed to speak for the earth
when, alone, it spoke to us both

as men we took truth as our own
now my feet struggle in the sand
scorching as i slip over grains
i will meet him at the oasis
sword in hand
and strike him down
then, alone, the earth will speak to me
no more
but i will have heard
and kept the word on the edge of a blade
for no one
to be spoken
