A lone mermaid's desperate attempt to find love.
It is hard to live
under the surface of the sea,
and to be the only mermaid
alive and free;
To rove the dark waters,
the light waters,
the corals, and
the ice;
To feel you die everyday
not once,
nor twice but thrice.

Entities of brightness
intrude the ether of life,
cut through my soul
like a sharp edged knife;
They show me--
glimpses
of the love I cannot have
of the love,
and the existence
that these
hydraulic dimensions lack.

The day when it rains
heavily,
heavily,
heavily,
and your coastal town
is half immersed
under waves of brine,
I will know
That it is my time
To swim ashore
And into
What I am sure
Is more than just a
Myriad of dark and bright streaks.

I will finally enter
The great white walls
Behind which you disappear
When the light falls;
You’ll meet me there
Won’t you?
And we’ll talk
the whole night long
You can hold me in your arms
while I sing to you my song
Your touch
which I have longed to feel
is it different than the cold water?

The next day
when the water dissapears
my skin will grow dry,
and when in your arms
I die
do not be afraid;
I will feel no pain;
The loss for me would be
worth reaching a new high
of in your arms saying
'Goodbye'.
