didn't put the armor on today...
no armor today

faced the world with circled eyes and cheekbone
scarred in hitting the ground and an unforgettable bottom

bore the marks of adolescence
marched with face upheld for all to see

not what I'd expected
no disgust, scorn nor blink of an eye

left the armor behind today
all things considered, I may never again dress for war...
