free verse about a recent experience.
Times change, life goes on, but memories remain.

Sometimes on call, sometimes at random, the memories come back.

Cheerful memories are always welcome, and often eagerly sought.

Other memories are not welcome, but still creep up behind you.

I saw Someone today that brought back memories; other memories.

Shared memories; nothing terrible or even life-shaking, just … other.

At the time, I didn’t let myself care, after all, I was leaving.

Over time, my actions haunt me.  Embarrassment, shame, regret.

We chatted in passing, recalling one another by name.

I admit to being flattered at being so remembered.

Before parting, I apologized for my past behavior.

Someone chuckled and said, “I don’t remember, but okay.”
