P W W Entry Prompt 1. Lessons for children based on an Oriental Proverb. 40 Lines
Prompt #1: If fate throws a knife at you, there are two ways of catching it-by the blade or by the handle.
                              -Oriental Proverb

Weapon Enough My Child

Seek, my child, a way to find
sunshine in the gloom.
Hold, my son, the heart of man
for in you, there’s a room,

where faith and sorrow struggle.
The winner drives your mood.
You have, my child, two choices;
to radiate or brood.

You will, my young one, suffer
as all who’ve come before.
You’ll have, my love, just what you need
to help you journey forth.

You show, my girl, such talents.
Kindle them and share.
Always seek more wisdom
and never cease to dare.

Go forth, my son, and conquer
the fear and doubt you own.
Inside you dwells a spirit
more alive than blood and bone.

The knife that fate will throw your way
is fiercer than the blade.
Grab the handle tight, young man.
Be watchful and be brave.

The one edge holds your boiling rage
and with it, discontent.
The other edge, as damaging,
holds disillusionment.

So catch that sword, with hands held fast.
Then place it in its sheath,
For the mind is weapon enough, my child,
to protect and set you free.
