A lesson learned.
There's a secret that I keep from so long ago.
It was left between God and I...but now I'll let you know.
It happened on a cool, crisp day as I passed through someone's land.
I remember it was late October and I had death in my hand.
I was so tired and very cold from walking all that day.
At least ten miles or more, it's so hard for me to say.
I wondered how much further or longer this would be.
What I really wanted at that moment, was to end a life you see.
To take its last breath is what I had in mind.
Then I heard his voice whisper from behind.
"Look up to your right, there between those trees".
"Must've caught our scent walking across the breeze".
How long had it been watching us? I didn't know.
Following so careful, like a long distance shadow.
When it broke the darkness and we came face to face...
I saw a red haired fox full of beauty and grace.
I stared in silence and to much delight,
as I watched it slip away and out of sight.
Then I heard him say, "Just remember one thing,
you have to slow down to see what life will bring".
As I walked away with all my curiosity,
I looked up to see my father smiling back at me.
