On the eve of the eclipse....
It's a black night as I
Sit on the old log in the
Woods. I know you're
Staring at the same
Sky, the same moon.
I long for you and you
Long for me- I sigh,
Knowing more than
Distance keeps us apart.
I look up into the inky
Sky and watch as, slowly,
The moon becomes bloody,
As the night is set aflame from
The air. The moon becomes as a
Gigantic, throbbing heart- only adding
To my longing. I hear oohs and aahs coming
From random people from the town. I don't think
That they feel they way that they should- their gasps
Are of amazement, not loss; of wonder, not crying. My only
Solace is in the knowledge that you, too are watching the sky,
Drinking in the sight of the massive heart and aching with me. You
Know, as I do, that the bloody sight in the air only means only one thing:
And such is the only thing that is not standing in our way- our weapon, it is
A truth, spoken from me to you, you to me, one that must be spoken: "I love you!"
I scream it into the night, at the apex of the eclipse. I hear the confusion of
The people still milling about, which only makes me laugh, a triumphant,
Relieved laugh; my promise to you has been fulfilled as I know yours
To me is as well. Will we see each other again? I ask the waning
Moon; the only answer I receive is in silence. I sigh, though
Contently, for I know one day, though the cards are
Stacked against us, that has never stopped love
Before has it? The moon is less of a heart and
More of a crimson sickle- perhaps a reaper
Of hearts, a slicer of minds? The night
Dims down once the fire has been
Doused- is your heart out
As well? Has the flame
Been put out? I
Wonder- has mine?
I don't feel as I did
At the start of the
Night- perhaps it's
Promises that
Truly fuels love-
Or, perhaps, I'm
Wrong entirely.
