A flash from the past
I am from 13 inch black and white TV's
and antennas swaying in the breeze
from swamp cooler for long hot summer days
and wood stove for warmth from the cold winter winds

I am from 3-cent bag of bubble gum
and homemade board games for fun
from party line phones
and one parent always home

I am from a family of eight
and of honor and respect
from instilled family values
and loyalty to faith

I am from pedal operated sewing machines
and washing machines with crank rollers to wring
from gas less, noiseless lawn mowers
and Friday night movies of horror

I am from rice and beans
and flour tortillas with cheese
from sleeping with open windows and unlocked doors
and sitting out enjoy the beauty of a evening storm

I am from friendship bonds that are so strong
that have touched my heart and soul
from one who will always be my best friend
and I will always be there without end
