My version of "This I Believe" for my final in my Critical Thinking class.
I believe in a higher calling;
A place desired for peace and prosperity.

My values have changed with the times,
But their basis hasn’t ventured.
I’m a callous soldier;
Upright and rigid, unable to waiver.

Heaven’s more than a place
Rather, a frame of mind;
The mindset of purpose
And the ability to change.

My inner calm is a minor reflection
Of the radicals defining my appearance;
I’m full of soft-spoken words, but often
Untamed as a lightning bolt, poised to strike.

I believe we rest on insecurities
To outline distasteful performances
We’re led to believe will
Someday, without that certain doubt,
Come true.

Happiness will set us free,
Guiding us in the right direction;
The wind that sails the boat
Into the light of the unknown.
