Fall

When I awoke this morning
there was frost upon the pane
so I pulled the blankets close
and then tried to sleep again.

But God's own light was shining
on this lovely autumn morn
as the early morning mist
heralded a brand new dawn.

I rose, looked out the window
at the trees standing so tall
and noticed all the green leaves
changing to the hues of fall.

In the stillness of the air
they were drifting to the ground
where they carpeted the grass
In the meadow all around.

This patchwork quilt of autumn
made from leaves that tumbled down,
was such a picturesque sight,
in a hundred shades of brown.

Our life is like the seasons
and I am now in the fall.
Winter will soon be on me
Then, like leaves, my life will pall.
