This is how it is when you hide winter from your family
SILENT SNOW
September 24, 2008

I said hello
and tulips blossomed
in the lilt of my voice--
blackbirds sang, rainbows
appeared
and I wanted to weep
and shout and cry
sobbing into the phone
like a brumal blizzard
and freeze the line
with my tears
“I want to come back--
rescue me-- I’m falling apart,”
but you heard a smile, sniffed a
garden, felt sunshine--
and you thought it was
spring.
