Twenty Years

If love was a rose
there’d be bouquets
around your toes!!

If it lived in the heart,
my chest would explode,
and blow apart!

But there’s no place
where love is kept,
no chest or vase
no place except

all around us,
in the air,
love is flowing
and growing there

in the kids and
pets and tears
love is knowing you
all these years.

So these roses
please accept
and these hearts
of chocolate

They mean nothing
without my smile
and my being
with you all the while.

But I give them
anyway
in the hopes
that you will stay

through more laughs
and smiles and tears
for at least
twenty fun—

or even twenty-one—
more years!!
