A look at the world through the eyes of a homeless person.
Your step is so distinctive I hear it as you tread

on the cold hard pavement where I make my bed.

You pass by me daily without a sideways glance.

With those feet you step so lightly

it seems an angel’s dance.

I wonder if you question, as you make your elegant way

through the bitter bluster of this wicked winters day,

“Who is this ragged soul that shivers there alone?”

Nay! But would those eyes turn inside

they would see a heart of stone.

Thanks for stopping by stranger, I think with sarcastic bite,

on all the times you have passed me on, be it morn or night.

Tis folly to look down upon a lesser soul,

But for the slight of the dealer’s hand

this life might be your goal.

Thanks for stopping in stranger!
