There is more to a window than the frame it's in.
A window waits
It’s glass cracked and dirty
Long forgotten
In a room no one visits
Or leaves before they can see
The world beyond the room

And in the window,
A girl stands
In a patch of roses
Far off in the distance
Her features blurred, unfocused
And all you can really see
Is the book clasped in her hands
And a white lace dress.

You can stay by the window
Cleaning off the dirt
Mending the cracks
And every so often
Peering past the glass
Learning through the window
About the world outside the room.

I wrote this for my English Honors class for a project, based on the short story 'Dead Child' by Gabrielle Roy. If you haven't read 'The Dead Child' already, I highly recommend it!
