One of the first poems I wrote that was ever published.
Pilot

For every dark cloud there is a silver lining.
For every gray eye there is a crystal blue eye shining.
Somewhere in the distance a man is crying.
Maybe youthful or elderly, maybe full of excitement
or filled with grief, either way he is flying.
Under the body, he sees the earth many feet below
green and gold dashing by in an even flow day or night.
With shining eyes he continues to drift
among many different types of clouds in an endless flight.
During his well balanced journey,
he has seen and experienced many things.
Soon the journey will end to make way for a new to begin.
Until that time arrives on schedule, he will savor the hum
of the engine with one thought that lingers in his mind:
For every dark cloud there is a silver lining.
