poem: "pain" copyright 1996
pain

copyright 1996
velvet, leather, and ice steel
perfume, chains, and Irish lace
Marvel at the pain I see
etched into his pretty face

old incense in the burner
wine and blood are in my eyes
and I am just a learner
all of this, some great disguise

a muffled sigh escapes the lips
an amber sheen enlivens the eyes
a long, cold hissing as satin rips
a vague disgust as another one dies

the pain is so bittersweet
when it comes like this
wrapped in passion, masqued in heat
slow death hides in the guise of a kiss

but for now there is no "never"
for now there is no "wrong"
for now we?ll try and sever
those morals holding us so long

a little port, a little hate
the two go fine together
let Him be tonight's dark mate
nothing can be forever

a frantic jumble of our limbs
no different than a crash
hot, cruel sex of a thousand whims
handcuffs, blood, a quick cruel lash

and if this love brings the end
then maybe it was meant to be
nothing can the damage mend
there's no forever for the likes of me

or the likes of thee
